Should I pull a Aeration device with my Zero Turn?? Thread starter Bob with Raptor Start date Jul 5, Bob with Raptor Forum Newbie. Joined Jun 27, Threads 2 Messages 9. I just found a "Deal" on one of those pull behind Aeration trailers. Is it too hard on Residential Zero Turn mowers to pull something like that, and will it work well? Bob If it ain't broke OH, it is broke! Joined Aug 25, Threads 18 Messages 2, IMO, save your money. I have a 3-point hitch core aerator and aerated twice a year for about ten years.
Even loaded with concrete blocks it wouldn't penetrate the recommended 3" unless the ground was very wet. I never saw any improvement in the grass.
I have aerated most of my lawns in the past, but always with a Ryan Aerater machine. Never tried an attachment. Those machines if you watered first almost always pulled good plugs of the sod. What's new New posts Latest activity.

What do you think I could be?Having a riding lawn mower or garden tractor is great for getting work done in the lawn, but unfortunately, thing can go wrong with them. If you have to fight with the mower to get work done, it can become a real hassle to use, and may end up making work harder.
One of the worst problems to have to deal with is a riding mower that is constantly pulling to one side, which means you will have to fight to keep it on track while mowing. So what can be causing steering issues, and how can you fix them? Often, a steering problem may not be rooted in the steering system itself, but in the wheels and tires. A tire that is low on air compared to the others can cause the mower to pull towards that wheel.
The same goes for the hard wheels in the front on some riding mowers — one that is worn excessively may pull the steering to that side. This is easy to diagnose and correct, and can be done at home. If you have a bagger, counterweights, or attachments, failure to center the weight can make your riding mower pull to the heavier side. Like with your tires and wheels, this is very easy to fix at home.
This is unique to zero-turn mowers that use do not use the usual rack-and-pinion steering. Zero-turn mowers can develop traction issues, where when both throttles that control the rear wheels are pushed forward with the same force, one wheel may transfer power more efficiently than the other, causing the mower to want to push towards the weaker side.
You will need to consult your operators manual for specifics for your particular model. This can be a complex procedure depending on the mower, and may be better off left to a professional. If your riding mower has disc or drum brakes, pulling to the side can be caused by one brake not releasing as cleanly as the other, or by a frozen brake caliper. This will require the removal of a tire to take a look at the brakes themselves. You must be logged in to post a comment.

I like zero-turns! They are fun and enjoyable to use. But they are not for every yard. Everyone has been trying to tell you that a zero-turn mower is what you need to mow your lawn. The advertising tells you that you can mow your lawn in half the time. The dealers tell you they have the best zero-turn mower. But zero-turns or a brand from your local dealer may not be the best answer you.
Because you have to learn how to drive one so you can mow your lawn without tearing it up. Many versions especially the inexpensive, homeowner models do not work on slopes, ditches or hills. They are designed to mow healthy, flat lawns and little else. If you work them too hard the drive systems may fail prematurely. They are more expensive than lawn tractors to buy and they can be more expensive to repair.
Zero turns are made for one purpose only, mowing grass. They mow quickly and will save you time trimming around obstacles. They are NOT designed to pull things. Yes, some have a hitch and you can pull a small yard cart or spreader but you will destroy the transmissions in them if you try to pull loads of dirt, firewood or a leaf vacuum regularly. Yes and No. By I was using crews of 2 people with zero-turns to do more work than my competitors were doing with crews of 7 using conventional Toro Groundsmasters and commercial walk-behind mowers.
I have hundreds of hours actually driving zero-turn mowers. I am particularly fond of stand-on models. Many of the problems with zero-turns that I will caution you about I have experienced myself. I have knocked the decks completely off from hitting obstacles too hard. Currently: I sold the lawn care business a while back and moved to Wisconsin but I still use zero-turns on my own yard. Here is a collage of mowers I have owned over the years: Mowers I have Owned. I am not an engineer, but I can talk about the physics and practical reasons why zero-turns act the way they do.
The general advertising states you can cut your mowing time in half using a zero turn mower instead of a traditional riding lawn tractor. That is partially true. Not having to back up and go forward or making multiple circles around a bush does save time.
